" The Story of a Rising Soul " honors the brave Iranian women who lost their lives while protesting against Iran's dictatorial regime. This ongoing movement for women's freedom is forging a vital path toward women's liberation in Iran and the end of the regime.
I present " The Story of a Rising Soul " in the Fauve style, using digital painting as my medium. It is printed on inkjet canvas and attached to fabric. The gift set features a canvas wall art piece and a matching canvas-stretched baguette gift bag.
I found the vibrant, bold, and acidic colors, the aggressively applied brush strokes of expressionistic Fauvist art, and the unusual, almost surreal juxtaposition of elements to be an excellent fit for my subject.
Through digital painting and color choices, I expressed the fiery sensation of burning bodies and the gentle movement of escaping souls as dancing spirits.
Blue Girl
Sahar Khodaverdi - 1990 – 9 September 2019
Sahar set herself on fire in front of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran on September 2nd, 2019
She was protesting a possible sentence of six months in prison for having tried to enter a public stadium to watch a football game against the national ban against women at such events. Sahar died a week later of her injuries. Khodaverdi’s self-immolation has generated much debate in Iran about the government's restrictions on women.
She is remembered as The Blue Girl, as blue was the color of her favorite soccer team. Rebirth is a visual journey into her loving memory.
Rebirth includes three collections.
